The closest to underhand they can get is submarine style. Softball is a complete rotation and released underhand. They usually will hit their glove on their leg to transfer energy. Their feet also move differently. You can't step outside of the pitching circle. Yes, baseballs travel faster, but the mound in softball is over 20 feet closer so you reaction time is about the same. Our pitcher on my team could throw around 65 MPH.
