What is the best way to clean off the residue from the rubber batting cage balls off of my wood baseball bat?

I have a Louisville Slugger wood bat that gets those ugly marks from hitting rubber batting cage balls. What is the best way to clean them off off without damaging my wooden bat?

Use rubbing alcohol

I got a new bat for christmas and had used it on rubber balls. It was a wood bat and my uncle who played in the major leagues told me to use rubbing alcohol to get the "scuffs" off.
