my son is 9 and this is his first year in kid pitch baseball, How do I get him to hit off a kid pitching?
He just seems like he doesnt want to swing the bat, and when i pitch to him he does fine,and i throw the ball just as quick so its not that he cant catch up to it.
It comes down to continued batting practice, wherever and whenever....he'll get his confidence against live pitching once he develops better hand/eye coordination. Also, he should pick up good hitting habits right now when he is still learning to hit consistently, like keeping his head in the batter's box to visually see the ball come off the bat when making contact. I can still hear my father yelling "keep your head in there", anytime I looked like I was swinging for the fences and completely whiffed! I eventually became a pretty consistent hitter. The other thing to remember is to not push him too hard, let him find his way with your guidance and encouragement. Good Luck!

I tried suspending a ball with a cord from a branch so my daughter could practice when I wasnt there, that seem to build self confidence, might try that

Maybe he is just being a lil shy and unsure of himself once he is in front of other people – with you he is totally comfortable…
Just keep reassuring him that he can do it and it’s ok if he misses. Once he gets to the field and see’s other kids missing to and taking a few times to hit, he will realize no one is going to laugh at him if he misses, and he will loosen up..
Just be sure to reassure and him and let him know it is ok if he misses some, that he will get another shot, and that its new to other kids too not just him, and that with more n more practice he will be hitting like a pro… My nephew was the same way, last year was his first time with pitching, but once he started doing it, he got good – now he is a lil show off and tell’s other kids it’s ok if they miss!!

He has faith in your pitching. He knows that you are not going to hit him so he isn’t afraid of the ball. When another kid is throwing the ball he doesn’t have that faith. Maybe and I hate to say it you should hit him every once in a while so he sees it doesn’t hurt. That might work.
There is another thing that might be the problem. You are probably throwing under hand to him which for some reason seems slower even though it isn’t. The batter has a better view of the ball underhand than he does overhand.
Get a couple of players on his team together promise them Dairy Queens or something and let them PLAY the game for a bit. Get out of the way and let them enjoy the game.
There is probably a lot of pressure on him to do well for his dad.

i have the same problem with my little brother this is my 5th yr. playing and i learned how to hit the ball by just having someone throw balls at me and seeing how many i can hit.!

I been umpiring little leauge for awhile. i seen some kids not even swing at the ball. Just give time i would say. See if you can get some of friends over
to help him out. He likey afraid of getting hit by the ball. (he will get it too)
