How many at-bats does a baseball player have to have to qualify for the batting crown?

Because one of my favorite palyers presently does not appear among the top batters in the NL, even though he has a batting average of about .340-.350. I realize that he does not appear among the top batters in the league because he lost a bunch of games early in the season due to an injury and thus does not have enough at-bats this season. But he is now off of the DL and playing almost every day. That's why I ask "how many at-bats does a baseball player need to qualify for the batting crown.

he must have an avg. of 3.1 at bats for # of games his team has played. are you talking about brian mcann of the braves?

A player must have 3.1 plate appearances per number of games his team has played. Example: if the team plays all 162 games then a player would need 502 plate appearences to qualify for a batting title. If during the season his team has played their 100th game, and a player is hitting .350, he must have at least 310 plate appearances to be listed among the league leaders.
