Have any good baseball pitching exercises that can help improve velocity?

I'm fifteen years old and I'm looking for exercise that can improve my velocity, yes i know velocity isn't everything but it gets you a step ahead of the game if you can spot your pitches and throw them at a constant speed

Hi Sdpads,

There are basically two methods you will want to incorporate to strengthen your arm:

1. Start a general weight training program designed for pitchers. This type of program will build up all your major muscles: legs, back, arms, chest, abs, etc. Tom House has a good workout routine in one of his books. You could go by a library and pick one up. I used his program and say my fastball increase by over 10 mph.

2. Isolate smaller muscles of your pitching arm. There are number of different ways to do this and this is essentially what some of the other people are recommending when they say grind your hand in rice or squeeze tennis balls. Ultimately, you are trying to develop your forearm, triceps, biceps, and shoulder muscles. There are thousands of different ways you can attack these muscles. The focus should be on picking a few you like and continuing to do them. Other popular ones are to use a piece of elastic at least 3 feet long that has one end stuck in a door hinge and you use your arm to stretch it out in a number of different ways. If you are looking to buy one, you can find these on the web or at a lot of baseball training stores.

Another way, is to use a broken wooden broom handle or wooden bat handle which has a thin rope tied to it in the middle of the handle and on the other end of the rope their is a 5 to 10 pound weight attached. The rope should be roughly 3 to 4 feet long. By holding the handle out in front of you, alternative rolling your wrists so that you are rolling the rope around the handle all the way till the weight meets the handle. Then, you do the reverse by rolling your hands backwards and letting the weight down. This exercise is great at developing your forearm muscles on top of your arm and will give you more control over your pitches. If you do not feel much muscle fatigue, add more weight

Hope this helps,
Jack Elliott

tennis ball squeezing in rice buckets, i learned that from Roger Clemens many years ago, work you forearams and wrists the most and always, stretch before throwing, but your lower arm muscles will help u get the most velocity,,,

Dont longtoss
Dont use weighted balls
Dont use weight room or strength training

Pitching is all lower body. You have to be like a rubber band.
For Ex: Moving your momentum from your back to your front and extending forward with all the momentum you had. Your arm is like a slingshot following your body. Look at Tim Lincecum and how he throws. He shifts his momentum from his back to his front and drills the ball forward. Hes a perfect example of how your supposed to pitch. Thats all i can give you. The rest is up to you. Strengthen your legs and dont use strength tactics. Instead use finesse.
Hope thats good.

Max out on you benching every day, bro.
Got to get that shoulder strength.
Make sure you work on you triceps.
And definetly build up you legs, that is the fulcrum of power.

what most people dont know on here is that the windup and explosive movement gets you the speed. Also just pitch, pitch, and pitch again cause think about it, the only way you’ll get better is practice at it. Create a windup that gives u alot of momentum and use it to improve speed.
