Like life in traditional society, but unlike football and basketball, the other two major American team sports, baseball is not governed by the clock and amazes many foreigners that it is the "national sport" in a fast-paced United States. Being a very popular team sport, apart from North America also in Latin America, the Caribbean and East Asia, baseball is a bat-and-ball game in which a pitcher throws a fist-sized hard ball past the hitting area of a batter. The batter, who belongs to the other team, then attempts to hit the ball with a smooth, cylindrical bat made of wood or metal. The team will score only when the batter manages to successfully batting the ball and then runs over four markers existing on the diamond-shaped baseball field, placed on a ninety feet distance from each other and called bases, while his opponents try at the same time to catch the ball and successfully throw it by using their hands to their teammates located at each of the four bases before the batter manages to cover the last ninety feet and reach the last base.
While a football game comprises exactly sixty minutes of play and a basketball game forty or forty-eight minutes, baseball has no set game duration. The pace of the game is therefore leisurely and unhurried, like the world was once, before the deadlines, schedules and hour wages. As a matter of fact, baseball belongs to that time when people had all day to play a game. Much like traditional rural life, baseball proceeds according to the rhythm of nature, specifically the rotation of the Earth around itself and the Sun. In fact, during its early years, baseball was not played during the night, which meant that this traditional leisure game was over before sunset at the latest.
Today, the baseball season follows a traditional pace, following the cycle of the active part of the agricultural year. Baseball season begins with the coming of spring, stretches through the long hot days of the summer, and culminates, like the growing season with its harvest, in the fall. From November through March, baseball players were inactive once, but now most of them migrate to the warmer climates of Central and South America.
Finally, just as rural societies everywhere observed the three phases of the growing season with festivals, so does baseball. There is the opening day of the season marked by the arrival of spring. Then the annual All-Star Game matching the best players from the two major leagues comes in midsummer, and last in October, the baseball championship competition called "World Series," often called the "fall classic," begins.
With worldwide famous players, like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio, baseball's golden age transformed these sports athletes to epic figures who inspired many and reminded people why keeping our roots alive should be considered of extreme importance. In fact, a measure of baseball's standing at the heart of American life is its transcendence of the boundary between popular and high culture. More than the other two favorite American sports, baseball has had a "crossover appeal," attracting interest from groups with little else in common. It is first and foremost a form of popular entertainment. But it has also been the subject of serious literally treatment and rigorous quantitative analysis. In the national life of the United States, baseball has made a place for itself in both the arts and sciences.

I'm sure every baseball or softball player out there remembers their T-Ball days. Well it seems that smashing the ball off of a batting tee isn't just for little kids. If you are a serious ballplayer or coach this is not news to you. You probably never stopped using a batting tee for training. If you don't use a tee for training you will after you read this article.
Today ball players of all ages have an enormous selection of batting tees available to them. Of course there is still the option of the standard heavy duty rubber single post tee. This design is inexpensive, durable and works well but we are not going to feature this model today. I will assume you have used or at least seen a standard batting tee before. Today we are going to look at a more exotic model that will offer more training options and convenience than the old standby.
The tee I am going to talk about is a couple of steps up from your everyday batting tee. It is made of the same durable materials but offers more options for post placement. The 5 Position Batting Tee has been in use for many years and it is easy to see why. The model pictured here as purchased from www.morleyathletic.com is made of durable rubber materials with an injection molded plate and steel reinforced tubes. The tubes adjust from 20 inches to 36 inches and the base plate even features a carry handle. This is all great but if we don't look beyond the general description of the tee you will miss it's true features. Five positions and two posts.
With two adjustable posts included with the tee you can now move beyond your standard drills and start practicing post drills and in and out drills. Double tee drills will take you beyond swing speed and truly hone in your ball hitting skills. You can be the most powerful batter in the game but unless you can make contact with the ball, well, you get the point.
It is the job of the pitcher to try and send the ball over the plate in a manner that will make it more difficult to hit. Most people consider speed to be the most important factor here. While the speed of the ball is important and certainly makes the ball harder to hit the pitcher has a lot of other tricks up his sleeve.
Placing the ball in a awkward position over the plate in combination with speed variations can keep even Babe Ruth from making contact. Inside and outside pitches, high or low. As a batter you need to be ready for it all. That's where this little five position beauty can really help you excel.
By being able to consistently keep the ball at one height level or one distance from the batter you can build that all important muscle memory. That way when your staring down the pitcher your body will have a better chance at instinctively hitting any pitch he throws at you.
That covers the use of the single post positions now lets look at an even more exciting aspect of training with a 5 position batting tee. Two tubes.
Let's talk about Babe Ruth again. The man had a knack for knowing where the ball was going to go. Magic? Not at all. It all comes down to skill as usual. So how do you predict where the ball will end up... by knowing how different hitting angles and positions will effect the ball. Of course this is not a perfect science but with enough training you can become the Babe Ruth of your league.
By positioning both tubes on the tee base at different heights and in different positions in relationship to each other you can master your hitting angles and develop a compact swing. Fence drills, post drills, in and out drills and more are possible with the 5 Position Batting Tee and don't require an additional batting tee or a real fence.
You can learn more about the different double tee drills and how you can use them by doing a quick Google search for "double tee drills". You will find hundreds of online tutorials and even some great books available.
There are dozens of tee styles available on the market. A few with basic layouts, a handful with complex innovative designs, many made for durability and some for convenience. The 5 position batting tee available at www.morleyathletic.com is sure to withstand the abuse you put out while offering many training options. You can also find many other tee designs as well as a full selection of over 8,000 products available at www.morleyathletic.com.

A comparison between softball and baseball can easily be made as softball is directly descended from baseball and therefore, it contains some important similarities. Despite this fact, however, there are also several important differences. The primary reason for these differences is that softball was originally intended to be played indoors. It would be a lot easier to talk about the differences between these two, but we are here to talk about their similarities.
Softball shares many similarities with baseball. It's a nine-a-side game played on a grass diamond, with a batter attempting to hit pitches and get onto base. Softball was developed as a game for women, dating back to the late 19th century and first reaching national prominence during World War II as a replacement for the decimated baseball league. Because of the draft for the war at that time, the sport has been almost completely transformed.
Even though softball started as an indoor version of baseball, these two games have evolved into two completely separate sports with different sets of rules and playing conditions. Both of them involve four main activities or skills: throwing, including pitching and fielding; catching; batting; and base running. The main difference in how these games are played is the technique by which the ball is pitched to the batter.
Some of the rules in baseball and softball are similar too. For example, slap bunting rules are the same for both but used more often in softball. Substitution rules are basically the same, but differences are present here too. Fast pitch softball is played with a twelve-inch ball, and metal bats. The distance between the each base is 60 feet long each base. From the pitchers mound to home plate it measures 43 feet in length. The pitching circle is 12 feet in diameter. From all these characteristics, you can say that baseball and softball are not sports based on player strength, but of explosion and intelligence.
Another aspect we should talk about is the similarities or differences between baseball and softball bats. Take the size of the barrel. Softball bats have a maximum barrel diameter of 2 ¼", making it a bit difficult to make solid contact with the ball. On the other hand, baseball bats have a maximum diameter of 2 ¾" and have a longer range. The similarity nowadays, for both baseball and softball bats, is that bats are made of special composites. These materials are made up of carbon, glass and fibers embedded in a polymer matrix make. Due to these materials, bats are now lighter, stiffer and stronger.
So, there you have it - similarities and differences between baseball and softball. Even though they look alike and have many similarities, remember that these are two completely different sports.

This article is structured in two parts: The first will talk strictly about ash baseball bats, and the second will be about maple baseball bats. You can then decide for yourself which wood baseball bat is more suitable for you.
Ash is among the most common materials chosen to make bats out of. In fact, ash baseball bats have an important position in the history of the game of baseball. The characteristics of ash (soft, light and porous) make it very suitable for baseball bats. The straight grain patterns in ash are convenient for designing beautiful baseball bats and making them very effective. Being a ring porous wood, ash makes some large cells during its early life. In time these cells become smaller and denser. At the weak woods the cells are much larger. By looking at the grain count, you determine the hardness of ash wood:
There are two types of ash: white ash and green ash. Because white ash is a high-quality wood, it makes very good baseball bats, that are accepted by most leagues and organizations. Its unique characteristics lend itself to being the most common choice for game play or practice. On the other hand, the green ash, also known as water or red ash is rarely used to make bats.
Maple baseball bats are among the most popular choices in bats, with ash being the biggest competitor among the baseball fans. Yet, it is said that the maple woods are the leaders. This is because maple wood is endowed with a tight grain that offers many of the qualities suited for smacking a baseball. The finer the grade of maple, the more expensive the bat, so always remember to ask about this aspect when buying a bat.
Other factors to consider before purchasing any maple bat, like other bats, are weight, length, and grip. More and more players take advantage of the great swing-empowering benefits of owning a good maple baseball bat. Serious amateur baseball players in the non-professional leagues or those who have major league aspirations, will often practice with a maple bat instead of an aluminum bat. There are several reasons for this. First, the sweet spot is more precise. Secondly, maple bats are solid and weigh more. After you get to practice with a maple bat, come game time, your aluminum bat swing will be much more dangerous. Another advantage is that a hard rock maple bat is less likely to split when batting. Since maple is a hardwood it is quite dense giving the bat it's holding power.
Knowing what you know now, it will be much easier for you to make the right choice on a baseball bat.

Whether you are part of the Little Leaguers, Senior Leaguers, college student's league or professionals, when it comes to baseball, the big questions that pops up is what kind of baseball bat you will use. And, if you really are a baseball player, you definitely know that the discussion is between aluminum bats and wood baseball bats.
One important piece of information you should know is that, in softball, little and senior league and college baseball, most of the bats are made up of aluminum. And yet, when it comes to professional baseball, players say that wood baseball bats are a must. You are now probably wondering what you should choose between these two baseball bat types. And that is why we are here, to discuss the pros and the cons of each type.
Nowadays, baseball bats can be purchased for as low as $25, but you can also buy more expensive $500 bats. A professional player will not choose a bat according to its price, and it all boils down to how he "feels" it. In the professional league, only wood bats are used, and Major League Baseball does not even allow corked bats. Most of the bats are made of ash, but maple, bamboo and hickory are also choices for baseball bats. Lately, more and more players gave up to hickory bats, as they are much heavier than the rest of the woods. Many are now opting for maple bats. Maple baseball bats are increasingly more popular because of its hardness and durability.
Some players also say that they prefer wood baseball bats because of the traditional look and feel. The sound made when the bat hits the ball is vastly different. They say a "crack" sounds way better than the "ping" sound of an aluminum bats hitting the ball.
But aluminum baseball bats are very popular too. They are often seen in all the different baseball leagues, except the professional ones. Why is this? Well, simply because a ball hit with an aluminum bat gets more speed. But this is a positive thing you might say. In fact things are not exactly like that. Due to the fact that they are lighter, a greater distance of the ball can now be achieved with less batter strength. And due to that, several players were injured. Due to the fierceness of the rebound of the aluminum bat, the reaction time of the pitchers is smaller. To prove this, in 1970, when aluminum baseball bats were firstly introduced, the batting average rose 30 points, and home run hits doubled. The game is simply not the same with lighter bats made from aluminum or other materials.
Overall though, buying a baseball bat is a personal decision. You'll definitely want to go with a baseball bat manufacturer that offers lots of customization so you can build the baseball bat most suitable to your size, weight, height and strength. Many also prefer to choose their colors and add a signature but few bat manufacturers allow such customization and personalization due to manufacturing cost factors. So if you are not a professional baseball player, you simply choose the baseball bat that suits you best.

Due to the immense popularity of baseball in the United States, it is hardly surprising that many high school students are fans of famous baseball players. Many high school students are talented players, and thus college baseball recruiting focuses a lot on high school baseball athletes.
Baseball is a game comprised of two teams with nine players each. The team that wins is the one that makes the most runs. In a run, a baseball athlete hits a ball thrown by another player, and runs past four markers called bases, which are arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or diamond. The players on one team take turns hitting (making them the batting team) while the other team tries to stop them from scoring runs by getting hitters out in any of several ways (thus making them the fielding team). The two teams take turns in batting and fielding, and the team that makes the most runs is declared the winner.
The creative and persevering high school athlete recruits can get a huge advantage over the competition in college baseball recruiting. Students who start early and make the initiating move promote their cause and assist the coaches in recruiting sports athletes. With only a few exceptions, coaches cannot recruit athletes until after the student finishes his junior year in high school. A student athlete, however, can contact a coach almost anytime he wishes to.
It is hardly surprising that many high school students are fans of famous baseball players. Many high school students are talented players, and thus college student recruiting focuses a lot on high school baseball athletes. College baseball recruiting often focuses on finding new talent amongst young people to play in Major League Baseball, which is the highest level of professional baseball in America. Teams in the MLB are divided into the National League (NL) and American League (AL). Both leagues in turn are comprised of three divisions, which are East, West, and Central. The winning team of Major League Baseball is determined by playoffs, which conclude in the annual competition known as the World Series. Four teams from each league participate in the World Series. Three of these are the regular season division winners, with the addition of one wild card team. The wild card team is the squad that possesses the best record among the non–division groups in the league.
Many high school students are hoping to get noticed in college student recruiting in order to play in college baseball teams. Fortunately, the Internet has proven to be a useful venue for both athletes in high school and athletic recruiters looking for new talent. There are many websites and online forums wherein students and scouts can come together and interact. D1Athletes is an online community wherein student athletes and coaches recruiting sports athletes alike can share and exchange information they need. D1Athletes offers them a place to build an online presence and gain important public exposure. To learn more, visit D1Athletes.com.

Hank Aaron is well-loved and known for breaking the home-run record previously set by the late great Babe Ruth. Hank streaked through with 755 homes (Ruth had 714) and set more than 10 records in the major league. He was known for his powerful slugs – during his career, he only batted one home run inside the park during a game with the Philadelphia Phillies. The first and only home run he hit that didn’t leave the park. For his batting prowess, he earned the nickname 'Hammerin' Hank'.
Why he matters
Hammerin' Hank was born Henry Louis Aaron in Mobile, Alabama in 1934. He began playing professional baseball exclusively for black teams in both Mobile and Indianapolis, Indiana. At 18, he joined the major leagues. He played for the Braves from 1954 to 1974 with both the Milwaukee and Atlanta teams.
Aaron had a lifetime batting average of .305 and batted in 2,297 runs. He boasts a total bases of 6,856, had 3,771 hits and played in 3,298 games. For his speed, he stole 240 bases in his career. He was voted as the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1957 and won three Gold Glove Awards thanks to his fielding talent. He appeared in 24 All-Star games.
Aaron led the National League in batting average in 1956 and again in 1959. He was also a leader four times each in home runs, RBIs (runs batted in) and slugging average. He nailed a major part in baseball history by becoming the first baseball player to reach the 3,000th career hit mark and have 500 home runs. The Hammer joined the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982.
Where to find a Hank Aaron autographed baseball
It's not difficult to find a hand-signed Hank Aaron baseball. The Major League Baseball website (www.mlb.com) posts authentic autographed baseballs, along with other sports items personally signed by Aaron. The baseballs are official MLB balls that are accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity from Steiner Sports. There are also signed baseballs sold through EBay and QVC.
There is another way to get a Hank Aaron autographed baseball, but it is way more expensive. Aaron owns the Hank Aaron Automotive Group which has car dealerships in Georgia. Some of the car brands they carry include BMW, Jaguar, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and Land Rover. Each car purchase comes with an autographed baseball.
How much a Hank Aaron autographed baseball will cost
The MLB website posts Aaron's hand-signed baseballs from about $330 to $350, although the price may be well worth it since each purchase comes with a COA, a reliable guarantee that what you're buying is actually a baseball held and signed by Hank Aaron himself. On EBay, the market value of a Hank Aaron signed and authenticated baseball is about $170 to $200, although you'll have to ask the seller if the item comes with a COA. If you're paying that much, you might as well be assured that you're not paying for a fake.
There are also other websites like SportsMemorabilia.com, that you can check out to find hand-signed baseballs by Aaron but make sure to ask for a COA or a photograph of the item online. Steiner Sports is not the only company that authenticates sports memorabilia; there are others, including Tri-Star Productions, Online Authentics, Mounted Memories, Global Authentication Inc., PSA/DNA Authentication Services and Upper Deck Authenticated. If you want the real deal, look for certifications from these firms.

They are nastyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
put them in the washing machine, but don't put them in the dryer or hang them up. wear them on your hands until they dry out, or they will shrink or get ruined and scrunched up.
